Vehicles in German City Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Police mentioned they were contacted by a resident who found a car in Hanau covered with red-colored substance

Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.

Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.

The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.

Law enforcement then located many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Police state early analysis indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.

"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.

Local authorities said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.

A senior official stated the incident left him speechless and required to be addressed rapidly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
